Architecture is a slow art. The time it takes to master this composite craft, as well as the time it takes to complete major projects, is long, and many architects — including those we celebrate as prodigies — do not enter the productive years of their careers until their 40s. This is why celebrated architects, from Frank Gehry to Oscar Niemeyer, often work well into their 90s, chasing time in order to produce their best work.

Zaha Hadid was no exception. Long known as a paper architect with bold proposals, Hadid was a well-established name in architecture by the time she started getting her first major commissions. But by the time of her death, at 65, she was only getting started.

We are now left with the task of understanding, celebrating, and affirming the legacy of a creative who was just entering her best years. The slow timelines of architecture mean that many of her mature works will only be completed in the years to come, trickling into the architectural history posthumously.

At the time of her death, Zaha Hadid had more projects in the works than ever before. Here are some of her buildings that we will be able to see completed in the next few years.
